Ira Pastor, ideaXme life sciences ambassador and founder of Bioquark interviews Dr Vitaly Vanchurin, PhD, Associate Professor, Theoretical Physics and Cosmology, Swenson College of Science and Engineering, at the University of Minnesota (UMN).

The Multiverse, Cosmological Neural Networks and "Space Noodles"

Dr Vanchurin's big questions and the tools we need to answer them:

"What is the origin of our Universe? What determines our vacuum and the cosmological constant that is responsible for the observed accelerated expansion of space? What determines the onset of structure formation and the birth of galaxies in our Universe? Our innate curiosity about our beginnings has been, since time immemorial, and still is, at the heart of every human being. This age old question of our origin can now be addressed by applying the scientific method".

Ira Pastor comments:

Today, we have a really exciting thought leader joining us on ideaXme who spends his time thinking about really BIG questions – Questions like: what is the origin of our Universe? What’s behind the cosmological constant (in Albert Einstein's field equations of general relativity) that is responsible accelerated expansion of space? What determines the onset of structure formation and the birth of galaxies in our Universe? And many other fascinating topics.

Theoretical Physics and Cosmology

Dr. Vitaly Vanchurin, is an Associate Professor, Theoretical Physics and Cosmology, Swenson College of Science and Engineering, at the University of Minnesota (UMN). Dr. Vanchurin has both a Masters, and Ph.D. in Physics, from Tufts Institute of Cosmology, and did his dissertation on the evolution of cosmic strings. Dr Vanchurin currently spends his time focused on a variety of themes including: cosmic inflation, multiverse cosmology, string theory landscapes, multi-dimensional fluids, gravitational waves, light propagation throughout the universe, and other quite esoteric concepts. Most recently Dr. Vanchurin has been in the scientific press quite a bit regarding a fascinating new theory on “cosmological neural networks”.

On this episode we will hear from Dr. Vanchurin about:

- His background - how he developed his interest in science, in theoretical physics, and in cosmology - His current research interests and programs at UMN - A discussion of his most recent research / theories in the area of "cosmological neural networks" and novel ideas surrounding machine learning - His views on the connection of his theories to those in the field of quantum biology (as well as thoughts on consciousness) - His work on multiverse theories and paradoxes - And of course "Space Noodles"

This interview is in American English.
